    features.xml Retrieval error

    witharmshigh Level 1
He all when i run help >> software updates >> find and install I get the following popup alert error (shows two times in a row):

Error retrieving "feature.xml". [ error in opening zip file ]

I get the same error when i click on the next button on the screen which shows up after the errors.

      I'm running
      Eclipse SDK
      Version: 3.1.2
      Build id: M20060118-1600
      on Windows XP Pro

Flex Beta 3 was installed AFTER eclipse (but i get the same error when i do the stand alone installation)

      thanks in advance

Hmmm, haven't seen this error before. Could you try doing this again,
then looking at the error log and seeing if it shows anything
interesting? You can get to the error log by doing Help > About Eclipse
SDK, clicking on Configuration Details, then clicking on Error Log.

              Hello,

What are you trying to install with Eclipse's Update Manager when you receive this error?

I'm trying to get cfeclipse installed. I know i can just download and drop in the files but i was hoping to get this worked out first.

Other than that nothing really. There isn't anything but eclipse and flex builder installed AFAIK.

Ah, right - the CF Extensions for Flex Builder. I thought that was probably what you were doing, but wanted to be sure.

Perhaps try unzipping the CF update site, and then install it as a local update site, instead of as an archived update site. Can you unzip the zip successfully?

Yea i can unzip it ok, drop the files into the plugins dir and it'll get sucked in.

BUT this problem appears before i even get to the screens to select if i'm doing an update or finding new software. and didn't appear until i put in the flex builder.

I've uninstalled / reinstalled a few times just to be sure etc.

                      Hey Jonese
You are trying to install CFEclipse not the Adobe cf plugins, right? I beleive it is an issue with the CFEclipse plug in itself since we have seen this is an issue when you have a fresh version of Eclipse()i.e. no FB in the picture. We have a few emails out to the CFEclipse folks and are waiting to hear back.

                        Larry,

My install currently is Flex Builder only. No CFEclipse, No CFEclipse URL in the list to install.

I've only installed Flex Builder and the CF components. nothing else.....

So i don't think this is CFEClipse related.

Jonese, from the error log you posted earlier, it looks as if the error arises while the Update Manager is trying to read the feature.xml file. Would you copy and paste the contents of your feature.xml file here?

sure can you tell me where i can find it. wheni do a search i get lots of feature.xml files.

After you unzip the update site, look in the features folder. You should see one or more jars there (how many do you see?), and if you unzip a given feature jar, you should be able to get at its feature.xml file.

If there's more than one, but not too awfully many, perhaps paste them all here for comparison.

in the above xml i snipped out the license text since some person decided to restrict posts to 1000 bytes.

                                    Jonese,

Thanks for posting your feature.xml file yesterday. We're investigating this with the CF team, and will let you know what sort of solution we find. In the meantime, your approach of dropping the CF plugins in manually seems like the best workaround.

I too have been receiving this error after installing the CF Extensions for Flex Builder B3. To eliminate this error, I removed the site.xml file that is unzipped into the root directory. Doing this will remove the error and allow the Software Update Interface to function correctly, but you can no longer access the CF Extensions.
