I have been using split toning successfully in some of my photos, I just started playing with the Balance slider, I can see what effect it has, I like the effect in some photos but not in others. Can someone explain in words what this slider actually does? I'm trying to get a better understanding of what it does so that I will have a better idea of when to use it and how to use it (instead of now where I just slide it left and slide it right to experiment). Thank you.
After setting your colors for highlights and shadows the balance slider enables you to find the sweet spot between the two or to get a specific look based upon a central point of 50% gray. Plus or minus the 50% level affects either the highlights or shadows and the hue/saturation set for each. Rick has an old video which is still relevant.
That's a very good explanation in the video.
Yep. The split toning need not be the final result. It’s sometimes necessary to go back into the basic panel to give a slight tweak to overall white balance.
