    Why Adobe keeps destroying Lightroom speed??!!

      Update after update Lightroom speed gets worst and worst, what is going on? Now with the latest update from a few days ago, 2015.6 in HDPI screens on Windows menus like the selection of white balance, the aspect ratio of the crops, or anything that display a popup menu shows up like on the center on the image you are working on and not where it is supposed to.  Use of brushes with GPU ON has became even slower than before, and I have a brand new machine with an Nvidia 980 with 8 GB of RAM and 64 GB of RAM and MSATA SSD RAID zero with 3500 MB/S speed, and still loading of new pictures is stupidly slow. Same computer working with Capture One Pro all it is lightning fast....  is Adobe trying to kill the product by getting people to actually stop using it out of boredom of waiting for the RAW engine to display the images?


      This is really frustrating, I really love Lightroom, it is unique, but every new version that comes out, it is worst than the previous one.

          Many of us have seen an improvement in speed since the upgrade. I believe a bug has been identified regarding the placing of the context menus in the middle of the screen, which Adobe is looking into. I think a lot of power is required to run connected hiDPi screens. Apple has only been able to introduce a 5k monitor because it’s built into an all-in one computer, the iMac which would be incapable of running with an external hiDpi monitor connected with USB or thunderbolt cables etc. I know that’s not much help to you Victor, but your speed problems may not necessarily be Lightroom related. Tony Northrup, a computer engineer I respect has produced a video with his latest benchmarking tests.




          If you want to roll-back to 6.5.1/2015.5.1 you would need to uninstall. Then re-install LR6.0 followed by the 6.5.1 update.

            Same here Victor the new update is so slow to load previews in develop mode even worse when you work on them. I have gone back to they previous version.

              Thanks for your suggestion, but I'm sure my laptop can handle it, previous version was working MUCh better, my laptop have a desktop GPU, a GTX 980 with 8 GB of RAM, 64 GB of RAM and a RAID Zero of PCIe SSDs that gives me 3.5 GB/s ... yes... 3500 MB/s ....   you are not going to find a machine faster than this one unless you compare it with a workstation, this is a $7000 laptop that is way much faster than an Apple laptop.


              Also Capture One moves the same RAW files effortless, like if they were JPGs....

                Maybe people have seen improvement but who? I purchased LR6 with the upgrade with my new computer, i7 and 32 gb of RAM and import, export and advancing photos is painfully slow. I've since reinstalled LR5.7 and although no speed demon it is probably three times faster. I've tried all the suggestions and have the latest upgrade and very disappointed. So far a $100 upgrade mistake. Please fix this. There seems to be far more complaining about lack of speed than those boosting and increase of speed.

                  LR 5 doesn't use the GPU.  LR 6 does use the GPU by default but sometimes the video card or the driver is actually slower than the CPU.


                  Turn off the GPU in LR / Edit / Prefs / Performance - uncheck Use Graphics Processor

                        This latest version with GPU off if even worst than with GPU on. And again. CaptureOne is 10 times faster. I don't care if they use or not GPU. But is something that proves that LR is just getting worst.

                              I don't think that comparison is quite fair.  Capture 1 has had GPU acceleration over most programming aspects for years and is continually refining the code.   LR has only just started with a limited feature set in develop - progress will take some time.

                                It is taking so far year and a half???   Do not release something until is ready, we are paying for the software, we are not Beta testers testing software for free. And the comparison is made only to demonstrate that the hardware I’m using is perfectly capable of doing the job, because people keep blaming the hardware, and in my case, I’m using both at the office and with my laptop, the state of the art in hardware.

                                  With no dis-respect to you. My view is dont release an inferior product to the public if it is not refined. Develop, test then release. Inferior products upset users that rely on the product they use everyday as it it a hindrance. I can only speak for myself but reading this forum and other outlets I think Im not alone and there is a real problem.

                                    They used to Beta test things before release them, they stopped when CC came out, at least publicly. I’m a beta tester for major products for Autodesk, and controls are very rigorous before releasing something,  this it is just a bad taste game they are playing with us.

                                      Yes, this a major problem. I have tried with and without the GPU. It is slightly better without the GPU but still pitiful. My computer is really fast for everything I do including ON1 Camera RAW but with Lightroom it is an absolute dog. I did not skimp when I bought it (see my specs below from Lightroom System Info) and I am not sure I could do much better. The Graphics Card is the fastest card made by NVidia and still the GPU performance is terrible. I am even editing Smart Previews and still the spot correction tool is basically unusable, switching from Fit View to 1:1 view and back hangs up for at least 15-30 seconds. Again, unusable! I cannot imagine how bad this would be if I had 4k or 5k monitors - it is so slow now that I would not be able to use Lightroom at all.


                                      I have even asked Adobe if my Graphics card ($1100 when new) was not the right card and was told the card is fine. Well, what is the problem here?????


                                      I fear that once ON1 adds some key items they are missing, I will be saying goodbye to Adobe.


                                      Another mystery. Every piece of software from Adobe CC is CC 2017. Why is Lightroom stuck at 2015? When LR CC 2017 hits the street, it better be like lightning speed or I and many other loyal supporters of Adobe will be hitting the street shortly after.


                                      I love Lightroom and have tried to stay loyal to Adobe but they are slowly killing me and making me spend 10 times as long to edit as I used to. Someone at Adobe needs to address this!
