Could you please let us know the following?
- Are you connected to an external drive? If yes, could you please disconnect it?
- Is sync ON? If yes, could you please pause it and try?
Like Matt I have been completely unable to import from a card reader using 2015.6. The application does not respond and I have to Force Quit.
The only way I can import now is to use Image Capture and then Import from the hard disk.
In my case - no external drive and sync is ON.
I have the same problem after updating yesterday. I do have external drives but can't disconnect because that is where my lightroom catalog is stored.
Need a bug fix ASAP.
I did disconnect all the external drives and it worked without crashing but it useless as I need to use the external drives as that is where my catalogs are due to space.
Same problem here. I have to force quit, then restart Lightroom and then i can import. Next time same thing... Very annoying!
This is a wide spread problem on Macs with LR 2015.6. It appears to be a bug. My workaround for the time being is to load images into my photos folder using Finder, then synchronizing the folder in LR. I hope Adobe gets this corrected soon.
I have this issue. Adobe customer support advised to rollback to last known working version and await the next patch.
Two questions Oh:-
1. Did Adobe Customer Support mention how to rollback the version?
2. Did they mention a subscription refund on non-working software?
Well i've just had an interesting and slightly embarrassing dialogue with Adobe Support
We set up a remote link for him to see my system and then tried an import using a CF card in a USB card reader. I confidently expected to see the spinning beach ball of death which of course ... did not appear. The import of one image worked fine.
The agent said "It worked fine". Feeling like a complete lemon, I had to agree.
Anyway, he checked that my old Nvidia graphics card was unchecked in Preferences and also set Preferences>File Handling>Cache to 30mb (Instead of the default of 1mb).
I relaunched Lightroom, did an import of about 24 images, and all worked fine. I also did a second import (something I was unable to do several days ago), all of which worked ok.
I hope this helps others with the same problem. My catalogue has about 7500 images and today's imports didn't drain memory, worked without problems.
As others have also said, I do have an external drive connected but that is where all photos are saved to so importing without the drive connected would be pointless.
Sync was on, i have since tried pausing it and now have switched it off completely.
Still no luck...
People have fixed this by resetting their preferences. Do this using these instructions. You might have to reselect your catalog if you don't use the default location. Another fix seems to be to uncouple all external disks. Run Lightroom once this way and to plug in your externals one by one. There is some cruft in the settings for import that needs to be recreated for some reason.
If that doesn't work, roll back to 2015.5.1. Instructions here but replace the update step with the updater to 2015.5.1. Many people are having problems with the latest version crashing on both Macs and Windows (it's definitely not exclusive to Macs at all) apparently because of the machine running out of memory. It runs perfectly fine on my Macs but I've seen a lot of reports here of crashing problems.
Deleting the preferences plist file did not work for me.
Apprehensively, I am rolling back to the previous version.
Resetting Preferences made it worse. Now it crashes every time I try to import.
