"Unable to merge the photos. Please cancel and review your selection" in LR 6.6

I'm trying to use the Panorama Merge option in LR 6.6. Sources are 8 ARW files coming from a Sony A7R II (8000 x 5320 pixel, 82 MB, 42.56 Mpixel each). LR Panorama Photo Merge stops with the above mentioned error message. No way to conclude the process.

What sounds weird is that 12 similar files, coming from the same camera, are processed with no issues (long time needed, but it worked in the end).

I've already read the tutorial on Create panoramas in Lightroom and watched the help video at https://images-tv.adobe.com/avp/vr/b3750ea0-c30d-4b5d-b762-db043c5f3f91/0d00729c-b2ea-4aa6 -9628-c87ae9d0efdf/63a0a81f-d6…

      Any solution available?
