You can use the Eyedropper tool to copy formatting if you don't want to use Paragraph Styles:
- Select the new paragraph with the Type tool
- Select the Eyedropper tool
- Click on the para that has the tabs set
Note that by default this will copy way more than just the tab stops. If all you want are the tab stops, double click on the Eyedropper in the Toolbox and uncheck what you don't want to copy.
Oh, cool, thanks. Do you think there is any way to assign a key command to this?
Just tap the letter i on the keyboard to access the eyedropper tool.
(i for eyedropper, which only works when you are speaking it out loud! )
No, I meant assigning a key or key commands as they had in Quark. Because I can't select the paragraph and then tap "i"- -the paragraph would get deleted.
Hmmm... the direction by Eugene Tyson sounds like it would work. I will give it a try. Thank you.
As Barb mentioned earlier, your best bet would be to use paragraph styles. Once you've set up a style with the tabs that you want, then you just assign it a keyboard shortcut and away you go ...
