I am transferring my data files from my old windows 7 machine to a new Windows 10 machine. In order to make the transfer, I had to enable 8dot3 file names on the new machine. Since those names can slow down the machine, I would like to strip them off the files and just use the long file names. Do Lightroom or Photoshop use the 8dot3 names or do they use the long file names visible in the Explorer? In other words, can I strip off the 8dot3 filenames and have lighroom still find the files using the long file name and photoshop still open them?
AFAIK LR will reference the file path and full file name. But it best to avoid multiple periods.
For example don’t use:
Samsung Sample 6.2.1.jpg
Samsung Sample 6-2-1.jpg
