Sounds like permissions issues instituted by an overzealous IT dept.
Please don't get me started on that, especially because its not a Microsoft product its "difficult to manage"...
Anyway, the permissions are the same as they previously were.
Have you upgraded from 11.x to 11.3 or otherwise ?
11.4 is now available.
If I'm honest I cant remember what version we were on, given the installation date I would guess 11.0, and yes we are now on 11.3
Normally, all custom workspaces automatically gets migrated to the upgraded version.
In case, earlier if you were on 10.xx before upgrading to 11.3 and workspaces could not be migrated automatically you may try manual migration. Go to Edit> Migrate Previous local settings..
But if that's not the case, please verify whether your custom workspace file is present at the location as mentioned below :
If the file is present then as mentioned by Bob Levine, it could be a permission related issue. Also, try upgrading to the latest version of InDesign i.e 11.4
I tried the migrate feature but says that nothing is available.
My files are saved in C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\InDesign\Version 11.0\en_GB\Workspaces\
Please note difference in US and GB, but I will try copying them over to the US folder and report back
James, you need not copy the files. The path I shared with you was for your reference only.
If your custom workspace file is present at the location then it should have been visible in the Workspace drowpdown list of InDesign.
Please try creating a new Workspace with your new InDesign and see if the new Workspace file gets stored the same location.
I asked IT to upgrade the software and it appears to have shifted from GB to US. I have a feeling it may have been done as a clean install which is why I lost all my settings (workspaces, dictionary, default opening colours etc.)
Once I copied the files over to the US folder they are now working.
Cant help but think this is going to cause me problems elsewhere.
That explains everything.
We do not migrate Workspaces from one locale folder to another, hence you were not able to see your custom workspaces.
Now that you have copied your WS files, everything should go smooth.
