No problems here.
Usually that is a sign that some third party utility is grabbing your keystrokes (Shift key, Alt/Option key, etc.)
Try restarting. Either turn off all your start up apps or hold down Shift as you launch your OS to disable them. Then open up InDesign and probably all will be well. Then you'll have to figure out what is is (e.g., Chrome plug-ins are frequent problems) that is causing the problem.
