Did you set the compatibility option in the DNG converter for the appropriate version of camera raw that you are using with Elements 10?
Using ACR 6.7, and set compatibility to 6.6 and higher. The problem is that
dng files that were converted earlier and used to open with no problems now
refuse to open. Re-installing PSE 10 and the DNG converter did not help.
If you reinstalled PSE10 then it would have ACR 6.4.1 and you’ll need to re-update to ACR 6.7, so before doing anything else check to see if you are actually using ACR 6.7 by doing Help / About Plug-in / Camera Raw and see what version is reported.
I checked and PSE is running v6.7 of ACR. Other file types will open...just
What error message do you get or what is different now than before when they worked?
Maybe the files are corrupted. Can you share one with us? Upload to www.dropbox.com and post a public share link, here.
PSE just locks up and I get a "ding" with everything I click on until I hit
the esc key.
Maybe that means you have or used to have two monitors and the Camera Raw plug-in is open on the other, perhaps now removed, monitor, and it is blocking you doing anything in the PSE interface until you close the Camera Raw plug-in with the Esc key.
So it's not that the DNG files won't open, it's that they are open in a plug-in that isn't visible.
Is that a likely scenario? Are you using a laptop that is sometimes docked with external monitors and you're using it without those external monitors attached?
When you're in the situation where things just ding, instead of hitting Esc, try changing the resolution of your display to something else and then change it back. That should reset your video settings enough to cause the CR plug-in to reposition to a currently-connected monitor. You may need to have Elements not maximized before you open the DNG so you'll have enough screen space to right-click on to get to the display settings.
Interesting...I do have a second monitor that is currently off. I'll check
That fixed it...ACR was opening on the second monitor (which was turned
off). Thanks for all the tips!
