Adobe have stopped suporting Lightroom as a stand alone program.
That is not the case. You can upgrade to Lightroom 6 without joining the Cloud or subscribing to Photoshop CC.
Lightroom Vs. 5.0 was released in June, 2013 and over the following somewhat more than a year and a half was regularly updated (free updates) until it reached its final update Lightroom 5.7.1 and was replaced by Lightroom Vs. 6.0 in April, 2015, which is a paid UPGRADE. This is fully legal - the purchase agreement for LR 5 clearly stated that it would not be updated forever - and is the standard practice for any software which is obtained through the purchase of a perpetual license. You can purchase a license for LR 6 (which has been updated many times since April, '15 and is currently at 6.6 - probably nearing the end of its life) and, as an LR 5 owner, receive a discount on the purchase price; or you can subscribe to Adobe's Photographer's Package and for a monthly fee receive Lightroom CC 2015 (currently at 2015.6) and Photoshop CC 2015 (currently at 2015.5).
I had already found out I was wrong, Although I would say that Adobe does not make it easy to get
to their upgrade and the upgrade price makes it very unattractive!! in other words GO TO PHOTOSHOP CC.
