Ok, found the mistake. I didn't fill one photobox (on the back of the book). Just a pity Lightroom doesn't say anything about it. Seemed like everything got exported but in the end, the file was empty. No warning about an empty box. I actually did not want a photo on the back of the book...
I'm glad you figured it out. I find it helpful before I export to go to single page view (Ctl/Cmd-T), and review every page of my book with the photo cell guide turned on - in the Guides panel, check Show Guides and then check Photo Cells. Lightroom will then show a gray box with a plus in the center anywhere there is an empty photo cell.
Lightroom won't otherwise warn you about empty photo cells because very often users intentionally leave cells blank, so a warning would create a lot of aggravation.
thanks for your helpful insight.
But why can't I export it then with empty cells? Would be nice that at least in the end I would get warned and asked if I want to export it with empty cells or not.
It took me days and I had no clue what the problem is!

That shouldn't happen - I'm wondering if it is related to a bug a client of mine stumbled on. Try removing the page and adding it back.
