No. Way back in the day there was a small utility that claimed to be able to unprotect a dxr file but even then it didn't really work.
So....protect it is an irreversible action?
Yes, protecting files is irreversible, critical editing data is deliberately stripped from the cast members in the process (among other things). When protecting files a user is given the opportunity to backup (move) the original (editable) files to another location. Before actually executing the protection a user is given one more warning that the protected files will not be editable. If one were to continue and protect the original files without creating a backup the editable files will be lost.
