Unable to validate serial number

I have successfully purchased, installed and registered Lightroom 6 on my Mac desktop as a stand alone application.

On the road and in the field, I use my McBook Pro, so I tried the to install Lightroom on it. No problem, until I tried to register. I enter my valid serial number (not signed in to CC) and I get a window saying: "We are unable to validate this serial number for Adobe Lightroom. Please contact Customer Support."

Seems to only way to get the program started is to use it as a CC application, which I don't want to do.

Why is it not accepting my valid serial number???

You have Light room 5 = Full version serial number & Light Room 6 = Upgrade serial number, please confirm the serial number that you are using.

The upgrade serial needs the previous serial number to validate it self.

I use the serial number I got when I purchased Lightroom 6.

Don't quite understand your answer. Do you mean I should re-install Lightroom 5??? "The upgrade serial needs the previous serial number to validate it self.' is too cryptic for my understanding.
