Is there any automated way to create a photo web gallery in fireworks or a third party plug in? I'm using Fireworks MX

As far as I know, there are no extensions of that kind for Fireworks MX.
There are some for Fireworks 8, however. Time to upgrade! :-)

There is a good on at www.valleywebdesigns.com (look for "just so")

I have used the built-in one in DW and had a lot of problems with it
messing up paths and stuff. Maybe it was operator error.

A free, quick-and-dirty solution is offered by www.picasa.com.

And a more upscale solution, budget permitting, would be Image Gallery
              Magic:
              http://www.projectseven.com/products/galleries/hgmagic/index.htm

Also nice, though not quite as accessible (with script disabled) as
Image Gallery Magic, would be PhotoAssist from Webassist.com.

If budget is a criteria, I would definitely go with Picassa, as I find
images that pop up in little windows very annoying (although I'm sure
              some folks don't mind).

Hi, Al! Wasn't intending to dis hgmagic in omitting mention of it; just
when I think of photoalbum I guess I think of the family reunion type of
thing where you have a ton of pictures all on one page rather than the
more elegant, small-row-at-a-time solution HGM provides.

Personally can't wait for a project where I'll get a chance to use
yours. I **love** the site that Murray has done for his brother.

It could of course be exactly what the OP wants. :-)

Also to the OP: If you **do** use Picasa and it is for sharing around
amongst friends, some of the "create a webpage" solutions use frames,
which makes it hard to bookmark individual photos, so that's something
to keep in mind. Picasa will also index all the photos on your
computer and help you find out where they are located, so it's useful
even if you don't use it to make a photoalbum.

How do you get it to work with Fireworks MX?

I didn't know it worked with Fireworks MX. How cool! :-)
