Please make sure that Lightroom is updated to the most recent version, 6.6.

I am able to update to version 6.6, finally. This fixed my problem! The LR6 opens promptly, as before. Thank you so much for your help. Would you please tell me what the issue that the version 6.6 has rectify?

There were lots of bugs and fixes that were fixed with the update of Lightroom 6.6.
