Just use the INDD files and ignore the plugin alert.
Thanks. I'll do that. Since all of the files will eventually be passed on to a printer, I was reluctant to pass the same missing plug-in problem on to someone else. Maybe I'm concerned for no reason if they open and print fine without them anyway.
OK, I just tried opening the indd file and while it opened fine once past the warning, I discovered that I was unable to package the doc because of the same plugin warning. I then saved the document as idml and re-opened it and there was the exact same issue of all text boxes having a vertical alignment of center. A big loop with no advantage. Guess I'm stuck with opening the idml docs and manually changing every text box vertical alignment.
I hate plugins.

You can do with Find\Change:
Tye: Text Frames
Change Object Format: click on specify attributes to change>Text Frame General Options>Vertical Justification>Align>Top
Then Find and change or change all
It might also be a simple as editing the object style for the text frames....
Thank you Salah! I just tried that and was rewarded with a quick solution to the re-alignment of over 100 text boxes! It was also informative since I rarely use the find/change for much beyond text. Thanks again!
