flash pdf shows blank attachment on email

I created a booklet in indesign and exported as swf file with page turn to make a flip book. Then converted to a pdf (dragged file to acrobat pro). The pdf opens fine but when I attach it to an email it is blank - no icon, no image. if you hover/click you can see an outline and if you click on it the pdf opens fine. 

I am using CS5, mac OS X El Capitan 10.11.5

I'd recommend posting this question over in the Acrobat CC forums.  This sounds like a thumbnail issue but I'm not sure what's going on here.
