for a script I am working on, I need to let the animators import another Ae project into the current project and then store the path of the chosen file into a variable. I thought that something like the importFileWithDialog() method would work, but this returns only an array of the imported items.
In the case of a footageItem I can easily get its file path, but not if the imported item is a folder item (another Ae project is collected into a folder item in the Project Panel).
Do you know how can I freely browse to the project I need to import and get its file path?
Thank you in advance!
After the items are imported they become native entities, so there is no persistent path to the original project. Unless you take care of this yourself with metadata like marker comments in comps, specifically named dummy comps and layers and so on or storing that info inside expressions or text layers, it's simply gone.
Thank you Mylenium,
storing these data in marker comments is a smart and clean workaround anyway!
It should work fine.
