I have been using InDesign for years and just 3 days after I saved a file I saw a "lock file" saved also. What is this and why did it just happen for the first time 3 days ago? I have been reading about lock file on the forum but I want to know why this just now showed up. Thank you.
The lock files prohibit someone else from using the file while you have it open. Otherwise, if two of you are working on one file, whoever saves last, wins.
Under normal circumstances, the lock files sit in the folder when your file is open, and are deleted when you save and close the file. If you crash, you may need to delete them manually, but that shouldn't happen very often.
They’ve always been there. They go away when you close the file unless there’s a crash.
Thank you. Seems odd that I NEVER noticed this before though.
