is browser support for .png acceptable?

    Level 7
Is anything rendered if .png images are not supported?
Is there a way to test for .png support and serve appropriate files.
Am using CFMX if that helps.

          For those interested:
          http://www.libpng.org/pub/png/pngapbr.html

No surprises what major browser has some trouble with it, I suppose
Roll on the IE7.x roll out.

additionally, .png doesn't work with css bg images . What a frustrating
situation - to have awesome alpha transparency but to have to re-work things
to get it on the page.
