I have thousands of photos in a collection. I scroll to photo 456. I move the photo, or go to another collection. I then have to scroll all the way back down to 456.
Is there any way to keep the location at the location you left it in?
Unfortunately there's no way to save it, you can create another collection where you can add those images and can perform the quick edit.
You can request this feature here: Feature Request/Bug Report Form

If you make the Quick Collection the 'Target' collection, press [B] on an image (456) to "save it" , then you can select that image in the small Quick Collection, open the large collection (or Grid view), and the image (456) remains selected and easier to find.
Clear the Quick Collection frequently to help locate the 'saved' image/s.
CTRL+B to Show the Target Collection
CTRL+SHIFT+B to Clear the Quick Collection.
