Hey, I appreciate the feedback but Ive already followed all of those steps and even tried researching the web for possible solutions. No matter what I do, the installation always fails at 55%.

If you haven't rebooted yet, that's a great place to start.  At minimum, it will eliminate a bunch of potential roadblocks for other steps.

If rebooting doesn't help, please see the installation troubleshooting guide:

https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/installation-problems-flash-player-mac.html

Collecting and posting the logs would help us improve the product, and the links to the offline installers at the bottom of the guide should get you going.

Hi,

Could you provide us with few log files that would help us debug. Please go through the FAQ Where do I find the Flash Player installation log on the Macintosh? and provide the Adobe_GDE.log, Adobe_ADM.log and FlashInstall.log files. Upload the files to cloud.acrobat.com/send using the instructions at How to share a document and post a link here.

Thanks!

Same problem on my iMac running OS 10,11.5. Install reaches 90%, stops and then cannot be aborted. Have to use Force Quit.

Here's official, user-friendly installation troubleshooting guidance.  I'd recommend starting here before  going down more esoteric paths.

The permissions issue is right on track. Mine was stopping at 53% and I could see the same error in the logs.

The correct fix is documented here:

macos - How can I fix permissions for files in the /var/folders/zz? - Ask Different

But basically you can do this:

sudo rm -rf /var/folders/zz/zy*
sudo shutdown -r now

After a reboot things should work.
