First, I would try to restore your backups.
If for some reason, you don't have backups, then you need to commit to making regular and automated backups of all of your photos and catalog file, no excuses!
You can extract the previews using this Lightroom plugin
Thanks dj, agree, no excuses - but ended up in this situation anyway :-(
When following Jefrey´s plugin, I can not see the missing files ind the folder catalog - how come / what goes wrong ?
Can you be a lot more specific? Provide a lot of details? Or show us a screen capture of the problem?
When activating Jefrey´s plugin, I get to the screendump below
And, my problem is, that I don´t see the missing disk in the source files.
When having Lightroom opened "normal way", I can see my lost photos in preview. like screendump below
Does that give any sense according to my problem ?
I have not used this particular plug-in, however Jeffrey does provide instructions for use at the same link, did you read that? He states you should use the command File > Plugin Extras > Extract Preview Images. Did you do that?
Yes, I have followed the instructions.
I can not add the plugin as Jeffrey explains. When using "Plugin extras", I don´t know what to choose from the list
- but when trying them, I dont get to possibility to choose the "ExtractPreviews.lua" file.
"When using the "Plugin manager" I use the "Add" function as Jeffrey describes in his "Installing a new plugin (long version)""
You must use this method to install a plugin.
I don't know where you found ExtractPreviews.lua but it is a single file, not the plugin. Jeffrey's plugin comes from his site in a zip file and the plugin is called preview-extraction-jfriedl.lrplugin. You must leave it with that name.
You clearly have not properly installed the plug-in. I believe this is because you are looking in the wrong folder for the plug-in, it is in whatever folder you downloaded it into. You probably have to move it to the folder you show in your screen capture (and possibly unzip it). However, I haven't read the plug-in installation instructions recently, but I would advise you to read them carefully, and if it still isn't working, contact Jeffrey directly.
Thanks a lot John
I have now succeeded in correct installation of the plugin. But I still can´t see the missing folder, when opening the plugin, where I should be able to select them, and make jpeg´s.
When opening Jeffrye´s plugin, I only see the folders NOT missing.
See the two screendumps below, where the first one is when I open Jeffryes tool, the second is a screendump, from when I open LR CC "normal way" - and where You see the missing folder with a "?" - Do You know why the one folder I need to extract jpegs from, is missing ?
Second questión - when the prewiev is in a "bad quality", will the extract be in the same "bad quality" ?
