1. Re: LR 3 to LR6 - metadata didn't transfer.
dj_paige Aug 21, 2016 5:07 PM (in response to ricclarke)In Lightroom 6, use the command File->Open Catalog and select the Lightroom 3 catalog.
If you imported the photos into Lightroom 6, this is the wrong thing to do and the cause of your problems.

ricclarke Aug 22, 2016 12:09 PM (in response to dj_paige)thanks, I tried to do that and nothing changes. do I need to delete all the images loaded the wrong way and reload to an empty LR6?

3. Re: LR 3 to LR6 - metadata didn't transfer.
dj_paige Aug 22, 2016 12:35 PM (in response to ricclarke)No, you simply need to do what I describe, File->Open Catalog and select the Lightroom 3 catalog.
Did you import photos at any time? Did you perform any other steps other than the very simple procedure described above?

4. Re: LR 3 to LR6 - metadata didn't transfer.
ricclarke Aug 22, 2016 12:45 PM (in response to dj_paige)When I got a new macbook pro I went migrated images with the help of a person on Apple care using wi-fi. The images came through but not the data.

Well that's the problem, you won't see data in LR 6 if it's not in LR 3.
Did you or Apple Care create a new LR 3 catalog by importing photos?
Can you find the LR 3 catalog file or a recent backup of your LR 3 catalog file from the old computer? -
7. Re: LR 3 to LR6 - metadata didn't transfer.
ricclarke Aug 22, 2016 1:50 PM (in response to dj_paige)I went to my old Macbook pro, and the metadata is there. Should I delete whats in the LR6 and reload from the old, correct images?

8. Re: LR 3 to LR6 - metadata didn't transfer.
Bob Somrak Aug 22, 2016 1:56 PM (in response to ricclarke)You should copy your catalog (LRCAT) file from the old Mac to the new Mac and open it. If the photos are in the same location on the new computer as the old computer everything should open in Lightroom on the new computer with all the metadata, adjustment etc.

Agreeing with Bob. The only thing you need to transfer is the catalog file from the old computer. You do not need to move or copy the images at all because you have already done that. Follow the brief instructions I stated earlier. And if Lightroom 6 doesn't recognize the location of the photos, let us know that should be simple to fix.
