    Why won't it play when the page first loads?

    BullocksTroy
      i'm not sure if this always happens, or if it's just my computer.. but I uploaded my page to the server, and whenever i go to view my page in a browser, the animation usually doesn't play the first time. But then if i hit reload, or leave the page and go back to it, it plays as it should.

      does this happen for anyone else? why is it doing this?

          I get the same issue. Maybe something happens in the actionscript before something else gets a chance to load. I'd have to see the code, but you may want to preload everything before the animation starts.

            how would i preload everything? i'm pretty sure i used to know how to do that but i couldn't figure it out...

            here's the code if it helps:

            <html xmlns=" http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en" lang="en">
            <head>

            <title>navbar</title>
            </head>
            <body bgcolor="#ffffff">

              What advantage would pre-loading have? You only have 1 flash file.

                still haven't figured this out... it only happens with this page - any other flash sites i have play the first time i open the page like they're supposed to. i'm not much of a code expert, but from what i posted above, i didn't see anything that could be causing this.
                can someone please take a look??

                  I think the problem is that you have frame 1 jumping to a frame further ahead in the timeline. If the file isn't loaded enough this frame doesn't exist yet, so the swf can't jump to that frame and it just stops on frame 1.

                  This is why you preload everything first.

                    I'm still not sure how to preload my swf? in the help section it said something like

                    loadMovie("filename.swf", level);

                    where would i place this script? all i have in the 1st action frame is gotoAndStop("movieclip1"). i tried putting the script here but it didn't do anything.

                    also this problem is in Firefox - but i just noticed an even bigger problem - the movie clips aren't playing at ALL in IE 6. first i have to click on it to activate my rollover buttons. but even then my movie clips don't play. is there something about my swf or fla file? or does it have to do with my browser settings?
