I am looking to purchase a new macbook pro when it comes out this fall and use it in my motorhome while I am traveling in North America. There will be many times when I will not have internet service and I want to be able to work on my images in my mobile photo processing studio and have not been able to get answers as to whether I will be able to work in lightroom on my lap top when I am not connected.
Lightroom installs locally on your Mac and your LR catalog needs to be local to Lightroom i.e. internal drive or external hard drive. Your images can either be stored on your internal or external hard drive.
If your master images are offline for a while, you can still edit Smart Previews.
So there won't be much, if any, difference between editing at home, in a studio or on the road.
As far as Lightroom is concerned, the only Cloud part about the Cloud version is the periodical licensing check which can be up to 99 days between checks.
I have been a subscriber for some years and finally getting the opportunity to go out on the road and make my passion more of my life and I want to be able to spend all the time I need to work with my images. A new macbook will be totally dedicated as a photo studio processor and storage unit.
