Lightroom Catalog Reverted to Previous Edits

    tasteymorsels

      Hi all

Our lightroom catalog has just suddenly reverted itself to how we had it about a month ago, meaning we have lost all our edits done since then. We think this may have happened when we were importing catalogs. Regardless, we have backups on our harddrive with the changes made since then. We'd like these changes to be reflected in our main catalog. How do we do this?

      (Using LR5 on a mac)

      Thanks!

First, make sure you didn't accidentally open the wrong catalog file. Go to File->Open Recent and select each catalog listed there to see if you can find one with recent edits.

If that doesn't work, you can always restore a recent backup catalog. Copy (not move) the backup to a brand new empty folder, double-click on it, and you should be good.

In my experience Lightroom does not revert to an older state automatically. Are you certain you have opened an older catalog rather than your master catalog?

We have made sure it is the main catalog file. Our archive is fine but our collections are what reverted. Can we import Collections settings from a backup without disturbing the current Archive? We are wanting to save all the edits we've made.

When you say to copy the backup to a new empty folder are you meaning within lightroom, or just on the desktop to begin working out of instead of our main catalog?

Thanks so much for your help.

You cannot copy a catalog within Lightroom. You would copy the backup catalog to perhaps a subfolder within your Lightroom folder. After you make the copy you can just double-click on that backup catalog and Lightroom should open it and display the adjustments that were made up to the point that the backup was created. If you find that the backup has all of the adjustments you are looking for you could then replace your existing master catalog, double-click on it again and then continue with your work.

I don't think you tried my suggestion of File->Open Recent

You can't copy catalogs in Lightroom. You have to copy it using your operating system.
