I have been using LR since the beta days. I have recently had "Switch to" frequently appear showing that something was busy and preventing LR from opening. I was always able to click on the "Switch to" button and then open LR. Now, no matter what I do "Switch to" will not close. When I click "Switch to" the Microsoft menu opens with only "Word" showing in the menu. Opening and closing "Word" does nothing. The only way I can close LR is to end it with Task Manager. It is completely un usable.
I am on the most recent CC version. How do I fix this. I am using Windows 7 64 with 64 GB of RAM on an Intel i7-5930K CPU @ 3.50GHz. This is a relatively new computer.
I look forward to you help.
no other software running? Does this also happen after a reboot?
These are some actions you can try out:
Switch off the use of the GPU (if you can get LR starting. Edit->preferences->performance.
Just to test: Rename your catalog so that LR does not try opening it. Start with a new catalog and look how the system reacts.
Trash your preferences. See here for finding the preferences: Preference file and other file locations | Lightroom CC and 6
(rename instead of deleting).
