I have trouble distinguishing between Photoshop and Lightroom. Especially when looking at the subscription offers. For the single software sub you can only choose Photoshop. There is no option to choose either CC or Lightroom. Do they always come together? Or can I choose which one I want later on in the process. They list them as if they were two separate programs but I only know photoshop and have never heard of lightroom. Can someone clarify please?

Talking about subscription, LR is only available within the Photography subscription which includes LR, PS and all the CC features.
LR is also available as a standalone license. The standalone version does not get new features and does not include the cloud features. Here's the difference: Compare Your Options: The Differences Between Lightroom 6 vs. CC | ProDesignTools
Getting the Photography Plan is the cheapest way of installing Photoshop. It also comes with Bridge. There is no need to use Lightroom, but it remains available to install at any time. Lightroom desktop synchronizes photo collections with mobile devices whilst a subscription remains valid.
