Are you talking about File > File Info? That command seems to be broken in the current version. All I see on my MacBook is:
And like you, I'm stuck until I press ESC.
This has been discussed (and reported to Adobe) on previous threads. It's probably time to report it again:
Yes, I’talking about this. But in my case there’s no grey object visible. On another machine I saw exactly this, and it was possible to catch with the mouse one of this round grey edges an it was possible to extend it to the whole window.
Total weird. I have e second account on my macbook. Within this account ID works like a charm.
Totally weird is right! And I had no idea I could grab and expand it. It looks bizarre after the resize...
but after closing and reopening it looks normal.
Definitely report it as a bug: Feature Request/Bug Report Form.
Here's a workaround in the meantime:
- Close the document
- Select it in Bridge (free download from the CC Desktop App)
- Enter the data into the Metadata tab.
When you can eventually see the metadata in InDesign, it will be there:
I know this workaround with bridge - thank you anyway.
But ID wont open it, even after changes made with bridge.
I’ve made the bug-report to adobe.

I cannot see this behavior with my German InDesign CC 2015 v126.96.36.199 on Mac OSX 10.10.3.
The xmp panel is loading as it should.
I don't have any problems with it either on my Mac OS X 10.11.6 with InDesign CC 2015 version 11.4.1.
I'd follow the instructions here for restoring your InDesign preferences:
