    Desktop Mac for Editing

I need to upgrade from my 2011 Macbook pro...

I've heard amazing AND horrible things about the new Mac Pro's D500 graphics card, and the 5K iMac's R9 graphics card. Is there any computer I CAN get or are they all bad?? I'm ready to invest $3,500 on a machine and I don't want to go Windows route because I work on other Mac's and need my hard drive formats to stay consistent.

      What do I do...

I need to be able to fluidly edit 4K ProRes as well as work on 5K After Effects comps without major delays or lags.

if you can wait a couple of months, there are rumors apple will be releasing some updated mac's. if you need something now you may have to take your chances with a current mac or look into a hackintosh to use a nvidia card.

if you are moving hard drives between machines you could look into using a hfs driver/program for windows, so a windows computer can read and write to the mac formatted hdd.
