I had a new 27" iMac with all the upgrades. I plan to install and use lightroom for my huge photographer portfolio. I have Aperture on my old computer.
Do I need to install lightroom on the old one in order to migrate my photos? I have my new computer and old computer connected in order to migrate everything else but can't figure out how to do the photos without installing Aperture on the new one? OR lightroom on the old one. Thanks for the help.
Each step is important enough in its own right, so avoid trying to do too much in one go.
My recommendation would be to get your Aperture environment established on the new machine, and verify everything has come over correctly. Principally that means the Aperture library itself (an aplibrary file) and your photos, and you don't say whether they are managed (ie inside the aplibrary) or referenced (ie in folders). But I would suggest getting Aperture installed and running on the new computer - if you don't have the disc, Aperture should be in your purchases in the app store. Take a breather and be confident you've not left anything behind. Then do the Lightroom migration on what's probably a faster/bigger computer.

That makes sense, photos are in project folders and organized fairly well. Thank you!
