As you probably know, EA is DOM based while Animate CC is Canvas based. So they are no equal.
It is possible to copy paste elements from Illustrator to EA. You will then have an SVG file.
I personally save all my assets from AI as png or jpg depending whether I need transparency or not.
If you use SVG files it is easy to manipulate areas with Edge Commons which unfortunately is not developed any more. You can also use other libraries.
in my working with EA I only use SVG from AI. by keeping one Master AI file and then Saving as > SVG it auto outlines all my text in 1 file but I can crop them in EA. If using different versions of SVG (saved files) I will only replace the file name in the info Panel. The good thing is that the SVG files are always sharp no matter what % increase. you can drag and drop the SVG directly into the EA 'stage' area and once inside duplicate them and crop the areas you need using 'Clip' will explain more later.
