Fixed vs fluid in mobile design

Hi, I am wanting to built a mobile friendly website that works really well on all mobile devices i.e breakpoints 320, 480, 768. I really don't care what it looks like above 768. I want to use scrolling effects but I want the site to fill the screen on every current mobile device. Fluid layout does this nicely. but fixed does not seem to work well. I get this white space around the breakpoint... it's confusing. For example working with a fixed 480 breakpoint has and extended white space around it. I don't know what that is?

My question is... Is there a set number of mobile breakpoints I should create in order to achieve maximum edge to edge fit on mobile devices?

      Thank you!
