When on the road, I make a temporary LR catalog and store the images to subfolders (e.g. State, specific park, etc). When I get home I want to import the images to specific folders in my main archive. Some of the folders may already exist or I may want to use a different name, I do not want to create additional subfolders. How can I get LR to only import the images to the location that I specify?
LR always seems to want to import the enclosing folder also as a new subfolder contained within the location you choose in the Import from Catalog dialog box.
When you import the photos from the travel catalog, are you doing a generic import or an "import from catalog"?
If you are doing a generic import, you may need to copy the directory tree of your images using Explorer/Finder, then do an "add" import.
If doing the "import from catalog", you may need to look at the file handling settings in there.
A "thinking out of the box" solution:
If you use keywords, the problem goes away. This is one of many problems you will run into if you use folders for this type of detailed organization.
