Do it InDesign and put them on the master page.
Don't try and design the book in MS Word. Include page numbers for your own reference and use MSWord's word processing facilities for writing your book and when it's finished Place the MSWord file in InDesign and add the page numbers, running heads and chapter headings and so on there (as Bob indicated).
InDesign can convert your MSWord styles, such as italic, to its Paragraph and Character Styles.
Worth mentioning Word's headers and footers are not imported into InDesign at all. The differences in their overall software design are just too big.
Thank you, Jongware

the front matter of ten pages, which won't have headers, footers, page numbers,
and the text.
Should I remove the Section Break? Should I removed any page breaks?
I didn't click Correct Answer because I wanted to leave this open to additional related
