I'm hoping someone you can help? I am buy a new mac (Sierra operating system).. will I be able to transfer all my old design files created in Freehand MX Macromedia Version 11.00 build 416, from my vintage mac onto the new computer?
If so, how will I do this and how will I open them? I will be purchasing a license for the newest Illustrator, will old freehand files open using this?
Thanks in advance,
Just tried and it didn't open. The only one which can do it is Affinity Designer.
To add what FH Addict said, you can transfer your FreeHand files to your new Mac like any other file but you will want to add extensions to them. If created in FreeHand MX then add .fh11 to all those files. Affinity Designer will open those but you may lose some layers. To open in Illustrator, you will need this FreeHand plugin: Tensai AI Plugins It does an awesome job of opening old FreeHand files accurately.
To keep using FreeHand on your new Mac, you will need to run it in Parallels, VMware, VirtualBox with Snow Leopard installed, see MacStrategy | Article | Virtualising Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard (Server)
Or keep your old Mac/FreeHand and network it with your new Mac.
