so basically you want the logo to be the mask for the video, and for the video to move like the logo. for this you should probably precomp the J's so they will be one layer. otherwise you will need a few duplicates.
you do that by making the logo an alpha matte of the video and parenting the video to the logo.
1. place the video below the logo
2. open the Modes Column and set the video to alpha matte the logo layer
3. open the Parent Column and set the video to be the child of the logo by parenting the logo to it
That seems very close to what im after, however will i be able to lower the opacity of the video so that the background texture of the logo will still be visable?

of course. just think of it in the opposite manner. toggle the visibility of the logo that serves as a track matte and lower its opacity to your liking. one of those rare cases where you want a track matte but also see it. I would even set it to some interesting blending mode. opacity is usually boring when compositing layers.
