    Sudha K Level 1

      Hi,

           I am exporting pdf  using joboptions settings, color settings and preflight profile checking.  If there is no error after calling preflight profile, will export pdf with the color settings using joboptions.  Sometimes images in pdf is getting missing.  I could not get the reason.. Can anyone help me?

          I have tested with the choices of (job options, preflight & color settings) but still i am getting the same issue.  Its not occurring frequently so could not get the issue and where its is occurring.

      Thanks,

      Sudha K

          Hi Sudha,

          are the missing "images" placed Adobe Illustrator files?
          We've seen issues with exporting AI files by scripting, if the process is interrupted by clicking around or switching to a different app while the background task ( or the foreground export ) has not finished yet.

            Hi,

                 Sorry for late reply....

                 Yes, Illustrator files (.ai) are placed in the InDesign document.  I have used scripting to export pdf with job options and preflight settings.  It did not give the images missing issue. After added color settings, I am having this issue.  Sometimes it exporting pdf with images missing.  If I export manually, pdf exported without any issue.  Using script sometimes its exported correctly.  Sometimes it exported with this issue.  I could not able to catch issue where & why its occur.

                 I have loaded color settings file before exporting pdf.  Is this background process??

                 I have tested well but could not catch the error. I don't know how to solve this issue.

              Now I see.
              You can avoid the issue with placed AI files, if you leave your hands off the keyboard while exporting by scripting. Do not click around or change to a different app. Wait until the export is done. That's all…

                  Hi Sudha,

                  what is your method of exporting PDFs?

                  Is it: exportFile() ?

                  Adobe InDesign CS6 (8.0) Object Model JS: Document

                  Or is it: asynchronousExportFile() ?
                  That would be a background process.

                  Adobe InDesign CS6 (8.0) Object Model JS: Document

                  What is your exact version of InDesign and your OS ?

                  Regards,
                  Uwe

                    Hi,

                         I am using Mac OS 10.6 & later and the InDesign version is "Adobe InDesign CS6". I have used exportFile() method.

                         app.activeDocument.exportFile(ExportFormat.pdfType, pdfPath, false, loadPDFPreset(presetFile));

                      Hi Sudha,

                      what is your exact version of InDesign CS6?

                      8.0.0

                      8.0.1

                      8.0.2

                      8.1.0

                      ?

                      If not 8.1.0 or 8.0.2 I would install a bug fix.
                      And if this problem will persist, I'll take the hands off the mouse and the keyboard while exporting to PDF.

                      As alternative to method exportFile() you could try:

                      asynchronousExportFile()
                      Same arguments as with exportFile().

                      Regards,
                      Uwe

                        And: With newer versions, I think the problem I linked to in answer # 4 is fixed.
                        Maybe beginning with CC v9.3.0. or an earlier version of CC v9.

                        I'm not sure as I only tested with CC 2017 v12.0.0.81.

                        Still, the cause of your problem could be a different one to what we saw some years ago mainly with CS4, CS5 and CS5.5.

                        Regards,
                        Uwe

                          Hi,

                              I am using InDesign CS6 version 8.0.

                             I tried the method asynchronousExportFile(), its giving the below error like using background task.

                            Screen shot 2016-11-08 at 1.57.59 PM.png

                          Code:

                            var pdfPath = outPath+"/"+ app.activeDocument.name;

                            pdfPath = pdfPath.replace(".indd",".pdf");

                            pdfPath = File(pdfPath.replace(".indd",".pdf"));

                            app.pdfExportPreferences.pageRange = PageRange.ALL_PAGES;

                          //app.activeDocument.exportFile(ExportFormat.pdfType, pdfPath, false, loadPDFPreset(presetFile));

                            app.activeDocument.asynchronousExportFile(ExportFormat.pdfType, pdfPath, false, loadPDFPreset(presetFile));

                            Hi Sudha,

                            hm, strange.

                            I would try to feed the name of the installed PDF preset as fourth argument to the function.

                            Not a function that is fetching the file itself.

                            Instanciate the joboptions file first, feed a variable with the file, get its name and use the name as fourth argument.

                            Also check, if the preset is already loaded, maybe it is already loaded and loading it a second time is no good idea.

                            And check if the presetFile exists at all.

                            And I would test this with a snippet first, not with a 639+ lines script.

                            Regards,
                            Uwe

                              And it would really help to find out the full version number of your InDesign CS6.

                              8.0.0 vs 8.0.1, 8.0.2 or 8.1.0

                              Adobe did a lot of bug fixing…
                              Btw. What is your OS?

                                Hi,

                                     InDesign version is 8.0 only and Mac OS is 10.6. I have checked it by clicking InDesign -> About InDesign.  It showing Version 8.0.

                                     Export code is the part of the script.  I have checked the joboptions.  If it is loaded then the function loadPDFPreset(presetFile) will return the loaded joboptions file. It will be used for an export pdf.

                                    Tested this issue (Images missing in exported pdf) in Mac OS 10.6 and 10.9.5.

                                  To get more details on your version number hold the cmd key while accessing "About InDesign".
                                  Just to be sure, that you are not on a version that is not bug fixed at all…

                                  My version of InDesign CS6 is 8.1.0.419 .

                                    Or do:

                                    alert(app.version);
