You need to upgrade your version of LR to one that works with the RAW files from that camera or use the free DNG convert to convert the native raw images to DNG.
The Sony Alpha 7 has been supported since Lightroom 5.3.
The RX10 III requires Lightroom 6.5.1 or later.
If you're running Lightroom 6 or the Cloud version then you need to update.
If you're running Lightroom 5 then you need to pay for an upgrade or join the Cloud.
Free option if you stay with Lightroom 5: use the DNG converter
I am using LR 5 and I would like to buy the upgrade. Could you please tell me where I can get it. Thank you.
The upgrade can be purchased from the following website: Software & Services
Lightroom is near the bottom of the page. After you indicate that you want to purchase an upgrade and indicate what version you have, the price will change to the upgrade price.
After I indicate that I want the upgrade, the “Add to Cart” frame goes grey and I am not able to proceed from there. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.
Did you indicate what version you are upgrading from? That information needs to be in place before you can proceed. It's the "I own" drop-down.
Thanks. I just bought and installed the upgrade. I still cannot import the images from the RX10 lll.
The initial downloader that you installed is not updated whenever there is Lightroom update. The installer installs Lightroom 6.0. You need to go through the update process and install Lightroom 6 .7 which is the latest update. Then you will have support for your camera.
I bought LR 6 and installed it, I downloaded the latest update and installed it and I still cannot import raw images from my Sony RX10 lll. It seems like it should be easier than this. I have spent most of the day and have made no progress and spent $79 to boot. Please help.
I downloaded the latest update and installed it
Let's check that the update is correctly installed.
In LR6, which version of Lightroom is shown?
Win: Help > About
Mac: Lightroom > About Lightroom
I have downloaded LR 6 twice and my program shows LR 5. How the hell do I get this to work.
Which operating system are you running?
You've downloaded Lightroom 6 twice. Have you actually installed it? If so, you've got both version 5 and version 6 installed.
How are you launching Lightroom? If you're using an operating system shortcut then it's for version 5 not version 6. If so, delete the shortcut.
Then find the version 6 application using Windows Explorer or Mac Finder and launch that. Then update version 6.0 to 6.7. Then you'll be able to import your Raw files.
Create a new shortcut for version 6.
I have an iMac iOs 10.11.6
Yes, I have installed LR6. How do I delete the shortcut to LR5? and create a shortcut to LR6?
Close Lightroom 5.
In the dock, right click the LR icon > Options > Remove from Dock
Use Finder to locate the Adobe Lightroom.app file inside the Lightroom 6 folder in the Applications folder. Launch it.
Once launched, right click the LR icon in the dock > Options > Keep in Dock.
Make sure you update Lightroom 6.0 to 6.7 before you import your Raw files.
I did all this and when I plug the card reader into the USB port, it opens LR5. How do I get rid of LR5?
- Use Finder to browse to any Raw file on your Card Reader or your computer
- Right click > Get Info
- Under Open with:, change Lightroom 5 to Lightroom 6
That will change the default program which will launch when your operating system sees that file type being opened.
Also in LR6 > Preferences > General, ensure that Show import dialog when a memory card is detected is checked.
In LR5, uncheck the same box.
You will need to change your workflow slightly.
First thing you should do is remove the LR 5 icon from the DOCK.
Then Remove LR 5 altogether or as stated above change the Open With path to the Lightroom.app for LR 6.
Here is where you'll need to change your workflow slightly. You'll need to first open LR and then insert the card reader cable and even have to click the Import button, possibly. The thing that opens LR and the import dialog window when a card is inserted doesn't work consistently or at all in LR 6.
