Importing the files into Adobe InDesign CS6, also happens with InDesign CC.
I am moving to In-design space.
Use File > Place, and then tick Show Import Versions in the subsequent Place dialogue box and select the Doc file and Open, you will then get a dialogue box, see screen shot below, where you have access to a number of conversion features.

Try to save docx as rtf and than place to InDesign.
I would recommend not to use manual page breaks, neither in Word nor in InDesign not in any other application. It is far better to define paragraph styles with appropriate keep option in every program. Make correct paragraph styles and use them.
