Please make sure to update Lightroom to the latest version first(6.7).
Also, try disabling GPU from preferences>performance tab.

Modern versions of Lightroom use a relational-model database for the catalog. As a result, the number of images references by the catalog makes virtually no difference for performance. 14k is a small number of images. :-)
If your catalog file gets over 2 gig in size, you might end up with some file system slow downs, maybe, depending on the version of the operating system you are using.

I am running the latest version of Lightroom CC and I think that has helped out the performance.
I read over the suggestions in that article and did what I could and I’m happy with how Lightroom is acting now.
