The filter usually is seen at the top of the thumbnails until you click "Filters Off"
Thank you for your answer, a similar bar does appear when I press backslash in the library mode. Unfortunately this does not work in the develop mode, as pressing the backslash there will only undo a last brush stroke or something, the bar just above the thumbnails hasn't returned.
I can't seem to find anything called similar to "Filters On", do you have any idea where I might find that?

The Filter Bar will only appear in Library Module. There is no such thing in the Develop Module.
Filters can be turned on and off using Ctrl-L (Windows) or Cmd-L (Mac)
Are you talking about the Tool Bar in the Develop Module? This appears directly above the filmstrip when you press T
The bar at the bottom of lightroom (only above the photo gallery) has disappeared, and the photo's in the small gallery at the bottom can't be completely seen anymore (the top is not visible anymore).
