you can add a movieclip (or movieclips) to the up, down and/or over frames of your button, but for best control use a movieclip as a button.
you can then use actionscript to play the movieclip and stop the movieclip.

create a new moviecliip that you'll use as a button. you can copy graphics from you old button to the movieclips timeline if that helps you.
how can i copy only the graphics i see only copy layer ?
you can copy frames, layers and objects on stage. just select (shift-select to select multiple) > right click > click copy.
