What is the point of snap.svg?

I've installed the snap.svg animation add-on. I can publish animations but the output is an html and a json file. I was expecting it to be a svg file. So, how is this an animated svg if the result is an html and a json file? With the html canvas, the published files are an html and a js file, or a single html file with the javascript integrated into it, which seems to me more useful. Can someone explain to me under what circumstances would I use the snapSVG animator? Is there a way to export an animated svg?
