    Premiere Elements 15 - m2t import doesn't work.

    BJ40films Level 1

      Hello,

I've got a problem. If I use HDVSplit to capture some footage from a HDV camcorder in the m2t format, and import that in Premiere Elements 15, it gives an error message. 'This file is not supported or the codec is missing' (something like that), however if I have a look here: Supported file formats it's definitely in the list.

I think there's something with the codec, but I've got no idea how to solve it. I may have to have a look into the ffdshow settings...

If you've got an idea how to solve it, please let me know. Thanks!

How are you adding this video to your project? HDV/M2T will definitely edit in Premiere Elements 15.

Note, however, that, per the program's Help files, some video requires you to install Quicktime's components in order to be fully editable in Premiere Elements. To do this, download Quicktime 7 and, using the Custom installation, opt to install everything EXCEPT Quicktime player.

          QuickTime 7.6 for Windows

Once you've done that, using Add Media/From Files and Folders and then using the M2T as the first video clip on Video 1 on your timeline should activate all of the necessary components.

Thanks Steve! I'm just adding video files via, 'add media' and I then select 'from files and folders'. I'm installing the newest version of quicktime right now, I still had a very old version on my pc..

            Let's see if that helped...

Add media, files and folders... Let's see.. No, it still gives that same message as before. 'This file is not supported or the codec is missing'.

What weird is though, if I open Windows file explorer and try to delete the video file I tried to import into Premiere Elements, it gives a popup: 'cannot delete file because it is opened in Premiere Elements', however, in Premiere the video file doesn't show up in 'project elements'.

Something is definitely up, BJ. But I can't tell what it is.

I'd try starting up a new project and trying again.

If that doesn't work, download the free Media Info program. Open your M2T file in it and then post the report it generates so we can see what's inside that file.

I'll try that. New project, import.. No, it still gives the same message..

But maybe it's due to HDVSplit, what if I try another program?

If I import a file in MediaInfo, it says this:

This appears to be a pretty standard 1440x1080 MPEG. There's no reason the program should reject it.

However, if you'd like, you can put a sample of this video in Dropbox and share it with me (My first name at my web site Muvipix dot com -- never put your e-mail address on a forum page) and I'll be glad to try it in my program.

Thanks for your reply Steve. It's a strange problem, that's for sure.

OK, so I've put a video file in Onedrive, as I don't have dropbox, I think it works almost the same as dropbox. Ehhhe, "myfirst name at my web site muvipix.com", what do you mean with that?

I've been searching around for a while now, and tried the jive help, but I can't find my 'share notification' email, where can I find that? Dozens of people, that's a lot...

You need to share the file with me, BJ, or I can't experiment with it.

OneDrive is online backup. You need to put the file on Dropbox and select the Share option in order to share it with me.

Thought OneDrive could do that too... But anyway, I made a dropbox account, uploaded the file and pressed share. Now I need to type in an email adress: 'my first name at my web site muvipix.com'.

"Make sure you reference this discussion in your "share notification" e-mail so I'll be able to track it back." Now I got it, I need to reference to this discussion in that share mail thingie.

If everything went well, you should have an email in your mailbox right now..

I've received no e-mails from Dropbox, BJ. You did send it to Steve@ my web site, right?

Yes I typed Steve at your website dot com. Dropbox even says that Steve Grisetti can see it. Should I post a link to the file here?

Thanks for sharing the file, BJ.

I downloaded it and it dropped right into my program with no problems. (I used Add Media/from Files and Folders.) In fact the program matched the specs perfectly when I added it to Video 1.

So there's nothing at all wrong with the file or the program's handling of it. I still don't know what's going on at your end though. Sorry.

Thanks Steve! Weird... Let's see what happens if I download it of dropbox, don't think that makes a difference though, but you never know..

No, that doesn't change a thing.

I'm going to re-install Premiere Elements let's see if that'll help...

Yes that helped a lot. A re-install did the trick, now it's working fine again!
