There isn't an option in Lightroom to delete the photos from the catalog AND the hard drive. The two buttons give you the options to remove OR delete. Of course, the remove option simply removes the images from the catalog.
In all of the research that I've done, that wasn't my understanding of how this works. So are you telling me that when I select a picture, hit delete, get this message:
and I select the 'delete from disk' button, it should remove the original picture from my hard drive, but not the catalog? That is the opposite of what I am experiencing. When I do this, the picture is removed from my catalog, but remains on my hard drive.
If you select "Delete from Disk"' the file will be removed from the catalog AND deleted from the disk. If viewed from the computer operating system, the file should be in your Recycle Bin.
Downloading the files from your SD card to the computer through Windows is not the cause of the problem.
During the Import to Lightroom, you are selecting "Add", right?.
OMG thank you so much - that's what it was. The default was copy and I didn't notice it. I just upgraded from LR 4 and 6 looks a bit different. When I change the import to add, it works as it should.
Glad to have helped.
