Can anyone tell me what % zoom would give me the appearance of "actual size" when using InDesign CC on a 27" iMac?
what % zoom would give me the appearance of "actual size"
Starting with CS6 100% or View>Actual Size zoom displays the document at its physical print size. Prior to CS6 100% was a 1:1 image pixel to monitor pixel ratio (same as Photoshop).
If you want the pre CS6 behavior there is a hidden preference that can be changed via scripting. For the scripting discussion see #4 and #66 here

It would depend on what screen resolution you have set on your display.

It is a 27" iMac "Retina", which I believe is 2560 by 1440 pixels

Best to just find it for your computer by experiment.

Is there a problem with doing it by experiment?

Yes, I am at somebody else's workstation for the weekend and I can't find a ruler, a sheet of copy paper, or anything else that I definitely know the dimensions of.
