How do I turn off the bounding box in Illustrator CC (2017) and have it stay off until I call for it again?

To turn the bounding box off for all documents. launch Illustrator but don't open any files. Then choose View > Hide Bounding Box. You will see the handy keyboard shortcut next to the command which will make it fast and easy for you to turn the bounding box on and off at will.

That sounds more like the way you would do it in InDesign.

Illustrator remembers the setting, if you turn it off (with or without document open), it will stay off.

I guess the question is related to the behaviour of selecting a typeface in CC 2017. Even if the Bounding Box is off, changing font will turn it on.

Is there no way to stop the bounding box from coming on when you change a typeface?

Not in the current 2017 version, it looks like a bug.

It may be a good idea to mention it here:

Thank you, that is the problem. I'll write to Adobe.

The link you gave me: Feature Request/Bug Report Form  only seems to be related to Acrobat do you have a link to the Illustrator Bug report?

I see what the problem is.

The scrollbar to get to other products disappears instantly.

You either have to use a scrollwheel or use another scrollfuntion (like a two finger gesture on a trackpad) to get to the other applications.

I see Barbara's link on the main Illustrator forum page, but also in Illustrator's Help menu. Help > Submit Bug/feature Request...

Normally this would give you a choice.

So this means all bugs are solved (except for Acrobat) or the form is broken.

I suspect the last.

Barbara's link seems to work (although I've never seen that one).

With bounding box turned off, if you have area type what looks like a bounding box will still show. However, Illustrator considers it an "Edge", not a "Bounding Box". To hide the edge, choose View > Show/Hide Edges.

But in CC 2017 the Bounding Box will reappear when you change the font for your selected text.

Sounds like you've pinpointed a bug in 2017. I'm using Illustrator 2016.3.1 and the problem does not occur when changing font.

You're right, Ton. In Illustrator the setting sticks with or without document open. I'm also an InDesign user.
